When Phaeton, the son of Helios, stepped into the sun god’s chariot, he lost control. The horses, driven wild, scorched and froze the earth. Zeus responded by striking Phaeton with a devastating thunderbolt. Rubens depicts Phaeton cast down from Helios’ golden chariot, his hair on fire, mirroring a blazing earth, surrounded by terrified horses and deities of the seasons responsible for the laws and order of time.
This bold fragrance pays homage to the tragedy of Phaeton, who, although he greatly failed, more greatly he dared.
